There are fat deposits that defy even iron discipline and exercise and simply refuse to go away. Typical examples are small accumulations of fat on the chin and neck, on the hips, on the buttocks or around the knees. Understandably, this is frustrating, but it is not your fault. Some fat cells are simply resistant to every attempt to get rid of them, however determined.
The most effective solution for getting rid of these stubborn fat pads for good is classic liposuction. However, this has a downside: once the fat is removed, loose skin sometimes remains, which requires an additional lifting operation.
At my practice in Frankfurt am Main, I close this gap with the innovative Leonardo® Laser. The state-of-the-art Dual 45 laser from biolitec allows me to tighten and smooth the skin right after the procedure. This way we achieve not only a slimmer silhouette but an overall firm and harmonious result that would not be possible with liposuction alone.
At a glance: The benefits of the Leonardo® Laser
- Targeted skin tightening directly after liposuction
- Stimulation of collagen production for firmer tissue in the long term
- Ideal for soft skin (for example on the upper arms and inner thighs)
- Gentle application with a reduced risk of bruising
- Minimally invasive alternative to major lifting operations
What is the Leonardo® Laser and how does it work?
The Leonardo® Laser is an innovation in laser technology and was developed by the German manufacturer biolitec specifically for minimally invasive body contouring by lipolysis. At my practice, however, I do not primarily use it to remove fat, since I do that more efficiently and precisely with liposuction. I use the laser to optimize the result after liposuction.
The special feature is the two wavelengths (980 nm and 1470 nm) of the Leonardo® Dual 45 laser. I insert the thin optical fiber into the tissue directly after the liposuction. The 1470 nm wavelength generates heat that smooths the remaining fat cells and, which is the decisive effect here, stimulates collagen formation deep in the skin. In the areas where we previously removed volume, this leads to immediately visible tightening and, over time, improved elasticity.
The 980 nm wavelength of the laser at the same time provides coagulation (stopping of bleeding). For you, this means that the procedure is almost bloodless and, after the treatment, significantly less bruising and swelling occur than with liposuction alone.

Areas of application: Where the Leonardo® Laser helps with tightening
I recommend the Leonardo® diode laser system to my patients whenever skin quality is not optimal or we are working in zones that are more prone to loosening.
Body tightening (body contouring)
Especially in places where the skin is very thin and quickly sags or develops dimples after liposuction, treatment with the Leonardo® Laser is worth its weight in gold. The positive effect of laser tightening after liposuction is particularly evident in the following areas:
- Abdomen
- Back (“bra rolls”)
- Hips (“love handles”)
- Upper arms (“bat wings”)
- Inner thighs
- Knee area (“knee fat”)
Face and neck (definition)
Sensitive areas of the body such as the face also benefit from skin tightening with the Leonardo® Laser. Here, the innovative device can be used, for example, for the following purposes:
- Skin tightening after a double chin treatment
- Smoothing the jawline and “jowls”
- Skin tightening on the neck (“turkey neck”)
What else can the Leonardo® Laser do?
In addition to the applications mentioned, the laser is suitable for a variety of other treatments such as skin tightening for cellulite. The laser can also be used to remove lipomas (benign fatty tumors) or to treat visually bothersome veins. I do not offer the latter at my practice in Frankfurt, however.
Limits of the treatment: What the laser is not suitable for
As a specialist, it is my duty to tell you not only what is possible with the Leonardo® Laser but also where its limits lie. Specifically, there are two scenarios:
Extreme excess skin after major weight loss
If you have lost 30 or more kilograms, a large amount of excess skin inevitably remains, usually in the form of an apron of skin on the lower abdomen. The problem: the laser does tighten the skin, but it cannot make half a square meter of skin disappear. Here, a lifting operation (for example abdominoplasty or arm lift) is the only sensible solution. During that procedure, I can use the Leonardo® Laser as a supplement to model the edges.
Replacement for classic liposuction
In principle, the Leonardo® Laser is suitable for laser lipolysis. It is therefore able to melt fatty tissue to a limited extent. At my practice, however, I do not use the laser as the sole method of fat removal. Here, liposuction is more efficient and easier for me, as a specialist, to control. I am happy to combine the methods, however, to achieve the optimal result for you.
Step by step: How does the combined treatment of liposuction and laser tightening work?
So that you can better picture the procedure, I will explain it using the example of a treatment of the upper arms. I like to treat the so-called “bat wings” at my practice with the Leonardo® Laser, as it achieves very appealing visual results.
1. Marking the treatment area
Before you lie down on the operating table, I mark the areas to be treated on your upper arms. I deliberately do this while you are standing, so that I can see how the tissue falls in your natural posture and a harmonious picture results after the liposuction.
2. Injection of the tumescent solution
Once you are lying down, for more comfort (depending on the procedure) you receive general anesthesia or we place you in twilight sedation. I then inject a tumescent solution into your upper arms.
3. Liposuction
Through tiny access points, I insert a cannula into the tissue of your upper arms and suction out the fat already loosened by the tumescent solution. In doing so, I also model the shape.
4. Skin tightening with the Leonardo® Dual 45 laser
Now the Leonardo® Laser comes into use. I insert the hair-thin glass fiber through the same access points. I then move it in a fan pattern under the skin. The warming tightens the connective tissue (“shrinking effect”), which makes the skin firmer immediately. In addition, heating the subcutaneous connective tissue activates the cells of the connective tissue and thus boosts collagen production, which once more provides a lasting tightening effect.
5. Care of the puncture sites and application of compression
Finally, I close the punctures with a small bandage. Stitching is often not necessary. We then put compression garments on you. These are important so that skin and tissue bond smoothly and the new arm shape stabilizes. Depending on the extent of the operation, a hospital stay of one day is required. After that, you can go home again.
