Giving lips new fullness and sensual contours: lip filler with Dr. Nichlos

Full lips, ideally in the characteristic heart shape, are considered a symbol of beauty. With their full vermilion, they give the face a sensual appeal and make it look young. Over the course of life, however, the lips lose volume like the skin and no longer look as plump as they once did. Some people also have very thin or barely defined lips from birth, or an upper and lower lip that differ, and want to do something about it.

Lip augmentation in Frankfurt offers a gentle treatment option whose result is visible after a few days, depending on swelling. With a filler such as hyaluronic acid, Dr. Nichlos replaces lip volume lost with age, gives the lips an even and harmonious shape or defines the contours and the Cupid’s bow in a targeted way for a heart-shaped look. The goal is always a result that suits you. Schedule an appointment for a consultation now.

What is lip filler?

Lip augmentation is an aesthetic treatment in which we can give more volume to lips that are felt to be too thin or harmonize the shape of asymmetrical lips. A targeted definition of the lip borders or an emphasis of the Cupid’s bow is also possible.

For this minimally invasive treatment, we generally use hyaluronic acid, as it can bind larger amounts of moisture and so create the desired volume. It is injected at specific points in the lips and produces an effect that is visible after a few days, depending on swelling. The result is not permanent, but the treatment can be repeated at any time on request and can generally even be reversed (hyaluronidase).

What are the benefits of lip augmentation in Frankfurt?

Building lip volume
Defining the lip contour
Balancing asymmetries
Smoothing fine vertical lip lines
Repetition and adjustment possible at any time

What are the reasons for lip filler?

Most patients come to our practice in Frankfurt for aesthetic reasons. Usually the wish is to increase the volume of the upper and/or lower lip with filler because the lips are felt to be too thin or not full enough. Some women also want more clearly defined lip borders or a more distinct Cupid’s bow. Both can be achieved with a hyaluronic acid filler.

Some patients also come to us because of an asymmetry, sometimes more and sometimes less pronounced, between the upper and lower lip or the left and right side of the lips. With lip augmentation, we can balance out these irregularities and so harmonize the proportions of the face. Another reason can be age-related fine lines, which can be treated at the same time.

In rare cases, there can also be reasons with a medical history, such as:

  • pronounced scars in the lip area
  • lip tissue lost through surgery or an accident
  • a congenital malformation such as a cleft lip and palate

In these cases, lip filler is less about creating more volume or optimizing the contour and more about helping patients regain a natural lip shape.

Methods

What methods are there for lip filler?

Hyaluronic acid

For lip augmentation, we generally rely on hyaluronic acid. This well-tolerated filler binds moisture at the injected site and so builds volume. We also like to use this property for wrinkle treatment and wherever volume has been lost.

The result of the injection is visible after a few days, depending on swelling, but it is not permanent, as the body gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid. The treatment therefore has to be repeated regularly if you want to maintain the result over the long term. Permanent fillers are no longer used today because they have often caused complications.

Fat transfer (lipofilling)

An alternative to hyaluronic acid is lip augmentation with autologous fat (lipofilling). For this, we take the body’s own fatty tissue from the abdomen or thighs, prepare it specially and then inject it into the lips. Part of the injected fat is broken down again by the body, while the rest generally stays in the tissue permanently, so part of the effect is retained as well.

Hyaluronidase: dissolving filler

Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved afterward with the enzyme hyaluronidase. This is an advantage if you should ever no longer like the additional volume.

What happens before lip filler?

Even before a small procedure like lip augmentation, Dr. med. Nichlos places great value on a detailed initial consultation. It is about getting to know your personal wishes and expectations for the treatment. Dr. Nichlos looks at your lip shape and the proportions of your face and recommends treatment methods that positively enhance your expression.

The specialist in plastic and aesthetic medicine also informs you about the respective advantages and the course of treatment and explains possible risks. For further planning, it is important to know whether you have pre-existing conditions and/or regularly take medication such as blood thinners. You may have to stop the latter shortly beforehand in consultation with the doctor.

Procedure

How does lip augmentation in Frankfurt work?

For the lip augmentation, you come to our practice in Frankfurt am Main. As soon as you have made yourself comfortable in the treatment chair, we clean and disinfect your lips. Then, if you wish, we apply a numbing cream to the treatment area.

In the next step, Dr. Nichlos marks the injection points through which he introduces the hyaluronic acid with a fine needle or blunt cannula. During the injection, he shapes the filler under the skin so that your lips get the desired shape and blend harmoniously into your face.

The treatment is outpatient and takes only about 15 to 30 minutes. Afterward, you can leave our practice right away and go about your usual day. Please follow our aftercare instructions, though, with which you best support the result of the treatment.

Aftercare

Aftercare after lip augmentation: What to keep in mind

Immediately after the treatment, you can gently cool your lips. Please avoid putting pressure on your lips or massaging them, though. This could shift the injected hyaluronic acid and change the desired lip shape.

We also recommend avoiding alcohol, nicotine, hot drinks and spicy foods for the first 1 to 2 days, and avoiding intense exercise as well as visits to the sauna and tanning bed. Please also leave off makeup and lipstick for the first 1 to 2 days, especially around the injection sites. Depending on swelling, you are socially presentable after 1 to 3 days.

Risks

What are the risks of lip filler?

In the first days after lip augmentation, slight swelling, small bruises or redness can temporarily occur on and around the lips. These are completely normal skin reactions that can occur with any injection with a needle and are no cause for concern.

As a rule, these side effects subside on their own within a few days. Beyond that, hyaluronic acid is generally well tolerated. As with any procedure, however, there are risks, for example allergic reactions, infections or hardening. We discuss them with you in detail beforehand.

Cost

How much does lip filler cost in Frankfurt?

Lip filler with hyaluronic acid:
from €350 per ml

Alternatively with fat transfer:

from €950

The cost depends on the extent of the treatment and the amount of active substance. After the consultation, you receive an individual cost estimate.

What does the cost depend on?

The cost of lip augmentation in Frankfurt is very individual and depends, among other things, on the extent of the treatment and the amount of active substance required. It is therefore hard to name a flat amount. So that you know early on what costs to expect for your lip filler treatment, Dr. Nichlos prepares an individual cost estimate and a personal treatment plan after the consultation.

Frequently asked questions about lip filler in Frankfurt

Unfortunately, we cannot perform lip augmentation if you have an acute herpes infection or another acute infection in the lip area. We also advise against treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as in certain (severe) pre-existing conditions.

The treatment itself takes only about 15 to 30 minutes with hyaluronic acid and 30 to 45 minutes with fat transfer, plus the time for the preceding harvesting and preparation (approx. 1 hour). Please also allow time for the preliminary examination and the conversation with Dr. Nichlos. It is very important to the specialist to inform you about all the details before the treatment and to advise you thoroughly.

That depends primarily on the type and amount of material used and on your metabolism. The latter varies greatly from person to person, so we can only give approximate figures for durability. In our experience, a result achieved with hyaluronic acid lasts about 6 to 8 months, sometimes also 12 months. The result of a fat transfer treatment lasts significantly longer. With both options, we can refresh the result by repeating the treatment if needed.

In the so-called twin-layer injection technique, Dr. Nichlos injects the filler at two tissue depths. One layer gives the lip stability and volume, the other provides a precise contour and smooths lip lines. Dr. Nichlos will gladly advise you on the method in a personal conversation.

Yes, for example laser treatment or fractional RF needling. Both are suitable as an alternative treatment for lip shaping and stimulate collagen production, but they do not lead directly to an increase in volume as hyaluronic acid or fat transfer does.

A surgical alternative can be a bullhorn lip lift, in which Dr. Nichlos shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip. This results in more visible vermilion through eversion (turning outward) and a visual rejuvenation. Dr. Nichlos will gladly advise you on the alternatives without obligation.

Botulinum toxin does not fill lips, because the active substance relaxes muscles and does not create volume. For more volume or a defined contour, hyaluronic acid or fat transfer are options. Botulinum toxin can, however, be used on the lips for the so-called lip flip and for a gummy smile. You can read more on the page about Botox treatment. Dr. Nichlos will clarify in the consultation in Frankfurt which method suits your wishes.

There is no standard amount. It depends on your lip shape, the volume you already have and the result you want. Dr. Nichlos determines it together with you after the examination. Treatment starts at €350 for 1 ml of hyaluronic acid, and after the consultation you receive a cost estimate. For Russian lips, 1 ml is often enough.

Classic lip filler is primarily about more volume, an even shape or defined contours. With Russian lips, the focus is on shape: the Cupid’s bow is emphasized to create a heart shape without the lip gaining much volume. Which variant suits you is something you discuss with Dr. Nichlos in the consultation.

No, as a rule it does not. Lip augmentation is an aesthetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance. Dr. Nichlos’ practice in Frankfurt has no statutory health insurance accreditation and bills privately: it treats self-pay patients exclusively, as well as privately insured patients when there is a medical indication. Treatment starts at €350 for 1 ml of hyaluronic acid, and at €950 with fat transfer. You can find all prices in the price list.
