Facelift Frankfurt

Facelift in Frankfurt: Natural face lifting with Dr. Nichlos

With increasing age, facial skin loses elasticity and firmness. This natural aging process often shows first as small lines and fine wrinkles around the eyes, on the neck, around the mouth and nose, which deepen more and more over the years. Later, the facial skin around the eyes and cheeks can increasingly sag and form hooded eyelids, eye bags or jowls, causing the facial contours to blur.

Because these changes often make those affected look unflattering and older, many look for ways to change this. For a long-term effect, the face lift (facelifting) is recommended, as Dr. Nichlos also offers it at his practice. In this procedure, which is performed routinely today, the loosened tissue is surgically lifted and the original contours are restored.

For a very natural-looking result, an expert in plastic surgery with high aesthetic standards such as Dr. Nichlos is the right contact for you. Schedule a consultation for a facelift in Frankfurt directly online!

What is a facelift?

The facelift (or facelifting) is a facial surgery procedure that tightens and visually rejuvenates the face. A facelift is an option whenever clear signs of skin aging show in the face that the patient does not want to accept. These include, for example, severely loosened facial skin or visible wrinkles that cannot be softened with other methods.

Typical treatment areas for a facial lift are the forehead, eyelids, cheeks, jawline and neck. This is where the signs of skin aging appear earliest and most clearly. Depending on the starting condition and the desired result, plastic surgery offers various methods that can be used in a facelift. We briefly introduce the mini facelift, SMAS lift and deep plane facelift further below, with links to the detailed pages.

What are the reasons for a facelift?

It is mostly aesthetic reasons that bring women and men to us. They are often dissatisfied with the first signs of aging, which can show in different ways. Typical of aging and the accompanying loss of elasticity and firmness are marked skin laxity (e.g., jowls), deep wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, or a double chin. They make the face look older, sometimes also tired or sad, and often awaken the wish for a younger appearance.

Facelift Frankfurt

Facelift for men

Facelifting has long been more than a topic for women. According to the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (DGÄPC), face and neck lifting is among the more common aesthetic procedures in men.

Why do we mention the facelift for men separately here? Because the male face differs from the female face in several respects. Men’s facial skin is naturally thicker and has a richer blood supply than women’s. In addition, the jawline is more pronounced, and beard hair grows on the cheeks and in the chin area. This has consequences for surgical planning.

In men, Dr. Nichlos usually places the incisions directly in front of the ear (preauricular) rather than at the hairline as in women. This prevents beard hair from shifting toward the outer ear and growing back visibly there. The scar is admittedly somewhat more visible at first here. However, it lies in the natural skin fold and fades over time into a fine line. The aim is to preserve the masculine, defined chin line and to achieve a natural result that does not look “operated on.”

The latter in particular is often a major concern for men. For the facelift in men, Dr. Nichlos therefore prefers the deep plane technique mentioned earlier. In it, he repositions the tissue structures as a unit instead of only tightening the skin. This has the advantage that the facial features are preserved and the face simply looks fresher and more rested.

Methods

What methods are there for a facelift?

We have various techniques available for a facelift.

Mini facelift (minilift)

The so-called mini facelift (minilift) is used to correct mild to moderate skin laxity. The focus is on the cheeks and the lower third of the face. In this procedure, Dr. Nichlos makes only small incisions, so the operating time and downtime are correspondingly short.

You can find more information on our page about the mini facelift.

Midface lift

In the so-called midface lift, the focus is on the cheek region. Here the plastic surgeon tightens the area between the lower eyelids and the upper lip, and if needed can combine this with an eyelid lift.

Brow lift / forehead lift

If the focus is to be on the upper third of the face, a brow lift is a good option, for example, in which the eyebrows are raised to create a more open, more alert look. This partial lift is often part of a forehead lift. In this procedure, not only are the eyebrows raised, but the entire forehead region is tightened. This can smooth horizontal forehead lines and/or vertical frown lines at the same time.

You can find more information on our page about the brow lift.

SMAS lift

The classic facelift is the so-called SMAS facelift. It tightens both the skin and the deeper structures such as the tissue layers and muscle, and also includes the cheeks, jawline and neck in the treatment. By lifting the facial contours, a natural result can be achieved that is generally long-lasting.

You can find more information on our page about the SMAS lift.

Deep plane facelift

The so-called deep plane facelift is as demanding as it is effective. Unlike the classic facelift, not only the skin but also the underlying tissue is tightened or lifted here.

You can find more information on our page about the deep plane facelift.

Is it possible to combine the facelift with other procedures?

Very much so. At his practice in Frankfurt, Dr. Nichlos offers various procedures that can make the result of a facelift even more harmonious. Age-related changes rarely show in just one place. The eyelids, the neck area and the cheeks often also develop loosened skin, so these regions can benefit from a refresh as well. In the consultation, we are happy to present combination treatments that make sense in your case. The most common procedures that complement a facelift include:

Neck tightening (platysmaplasty)

If the neck is also loosened in addition to the face, or if the so-called platysma bands (vertical neck cords) are visible, Dr. Nichlos can tighten this area in the same session. The combination creates a coherent overall picture from the chin to the décolleté.

Eyelid lift

Drooping upper eyelids and pronounced eye bags make the gaze look tired, even after the specialist has tightened the rest of the face. An upper eyelid lift or lower eyelid lift is therefore a popular addition to the facelift and creates a more rested look overall.

Autologous fat transfer (lipofilling)

Sometimes the problem is missing volume. With age, the body breaks down subcutaneous fatty tissue. This is particularly noticeable on the cheeks and in the area of the nasolabial folds. With the body’s own fatty tissue, it is possible to rebuild these areas in a targeted way during the facelift.

Liposuction of the chin and neck

A double chin and fat deposits beneath the chin can become more noticeable and bothersome after a facelift. Treating them at the same time is therefore a good option and spares you another anesthesia. For this, Dr. Nichlos suctions out the excess fat cells and refines the facial contours.

After healing is complete, it is possible, if necessary, to complement the result with non-surgical treatments such as Botox or hyaluronic acid. This is an option at the earliest a few weeks after the operation. Dr. Nichlos is happy to advise you personally on the possibilities.

What happens before the facelift?

Before a facelift, it is important to know your motivations and expectations and to inform you in detail about the possible treatment methods. For this, you come to our practice in Frankfurt for a detailed consultation.

At the consultation, Dr. Nichlos examines you thoroughly and discusses with you which facelift technique best achieves your wishes, or which is best suited to tighten your facial features optimally. The surgeon explains exactly how the treatment proceeds and which anesthesia is best suited for you, and also addresses the possible risks and complications associated with a facelift in Frankfurt. On site, he can also show you before-and-after photos of operations already performed.

Part of the no-obligation consultation is also that Dr. med. Nichlos prepares an individual treatment plan and a cost estimate for you. If you decide to go ahead with the procedure, further examinations (including blood tests and an ECG) are usually required.

If there are no health reasons standing in the way of the facelift in Frankfurt, you can prepare for the operation. If possible, avoid nicotine and alcohol for one to two weeks before the operation. Very important: if you take blood-thinning medication, you must tell us beforehand, as well as about other medical conditions and allergies.

Procedure

Facelift Frankfurt: How does the operation work?

We perform the facelift in the operating rooms of the affiliated clinic in Frankfurt. Depending on the method, the operation takes 1.5 to 4 hours. The SMAS and deep plane facelifts are performed under general anesthesia; for the mini facelift, local anesthesia with twilight sedation is also possible.

As soon as the anesthesia takes effect and you are asleep, Dr. Nichlos begins to make the carefully marked, very fine skin incisions. These usually run along the hairline or behind the ears, so that the fine scars generally heal inconspicuously.

Through the incision, the skin, usually together with the underlying connective and fatty tissue, is tightened to soften wrinkles and smooth the skin. The resulting excess skin is then removed. At the end of the operation, Dr. Nichlos closes the incisions with very fine stitches and, if necessary, places drains behind the ears through which wound fluid can drain.

Aftercare

Healing after the facelift: What you should keep in mind

Depending on the method, you stay one night for observation in our affiliated private clinic after the face lift; after a mini facelift, the procedure can usually also be done on an outpatient basis. After the facelift, you wear a facial bandage for 7 days. Any drains that have been placed are removed after two days if healing goes well.

Do not let your appearance immediately after the facelift unsettle you. Swelling, redness or slight bruising are completely normal reactions and usually subside within 1 to 2 weeks. The same applies to slight numbness in the face that you may feel immediately after the operation. A feeling of tightness at the sutures is also completely normal and usually eases after a few days.

At first, the mobility of your head and face may also still be somewhat limited. Try to avoid movements during this time and, when sleeping, keep your head as elevated as possible. About 7 to 10 days after the facelift, we remove the sutures.

After about a week, you can already begin scar care and gentle massage. Support healing by giving your body plenty of rest and avoiding all strenuous activities such as sports and housework for about 4 weeks. During this time, also avoid direct sunlight and UV rays (tanning beds).

Please reliably attend the follow-up appointments at our practice in Frankfurt so that Dr. Nichlos can monitor the healing process.

If needed, the facelift can be combined with other treatments to optimize the result. A popular option, for example, is the combination with procedures that improve the skin’s appearance, such as microneedling or laser treatment. These should not be done too early, however, but only a few weeks or months after the facelift, when all swelling has subsided and healing is complete. Only once the final result is visible can further treatments be planned.

Risks

What are the risks of a facelift?

If the facelift is performed by an experienced specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery such as Dr. Nichlos, the risks are low. However, as with any other surgical procedure, general surgical risks exist. These include bleeding, bruising, wound healing disorders and infections, as well as sensory disturbances or a feeling of tightness.

In rare individual cases, complications such as temporary or permanent nerve damage, temporary and lasting paralysis of individual facial regions, or circulatory disorders can also occur with a face and/or neck lift.

Cost

How much does a facelift cost in Frankfurt?

Mini facelift:

What is included in the price?

The total cost of a facelift is made up of several components. These usually include:

  • detailed consultation (€100, fully credited if you go ahead with the treatment)
  • individual analysis of your facial structure and treatment planning
  • surgeon’s fee for the procedure
  • medical care during the operation
  • aftercare and follow-up appointments

In addition, anesthesia and clinic fees apply, as the operation is performed in a specialized clinic.

After a SMAS facelift or deep plane facelift, you also receive a facial bandage that supports the healing process and stabilizes the result of the operation. As a rule, an overnight stay in the clinic is also planned.

The cost of a facelift depends on the surgical technique chosen and the extent of the face lift. At our practice in Frankfurt, different methods are used, tailored individually to the condition of your skin and the rejuvenation you want.

Frequently asked questions about the facelift in Frankfurt

The mini facelift is suitable for mild to moderate laxity in the lower third of the face and is the gentlest procedure. The SMAS lift goes deeper and also involves tissue layers and muscle. The deep plane facelift is the most extensive technique: it treats the entire face including deeper structures and is particularly suitable for more pronounced skin laxity in the middle and lower third of the face.

Dr. Nichlos will determine which method is right for you in a personal conversation at the practice in Frankfurt. You can find details on the procedure and cost on the pages for the three techniques.

The result of a facelift is long-lasting, but the natural aging process continues. For most patients, the fresh, younger look lasts many years. How long this applies in your case cannot be predicted individually.

Dr. Nichlos places the incisions so that they lie in natural creases and at the hairline wherever possible, and the scars generally heal inconspicuously. With good aftercare, they continue to fade over time.

A facelift is generally an aesthetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance. Please note: Dr. Nichlos’ practice is a private practice without statutory health insurance accreditation and treats only self-pay patients and privately insured patients with a medical indication.

There is no fixed age limit. What matters is how much the skin and tissue have loosened and how much this bothers you. For mild to moderate laxity in the lower third of the face, a mini facelift is an option; for more pronounced changes, a SMAS lift or a deep plane facelift. Dr. Nichlos will assess this together with you during the examination in Frankfurt.

Regardless of the country, you should look for a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, a detailed consultation before the procedure, and aftercare that you can reliably attend. With Dr. Nichlos, the consultation covers the method, anesthesia and possible risks. The operation takes place in an affiliated clinic in Frankfurt, the sutures are removed after about 10 days, and the healing process is monitored at the practice. During the recovery phase, Dr. Nichlos is personally available if needed.

After the consultation, further examinations such as a blood count and an ECG are usually necessary. If possible, avoid nicotine and alcohol for one to two weeks before the operation. If you take blood-thinning medication, you must tell us beforehand, as well as about other medical conditions and allergies. Dr. Nichlos will discuss all details of the preparation with you at the practice in Frankfurt.

Complementary treatments such as Botox or hyaluronic acid are an option at the earliest a few weeks after the operation and once healing is complete. Procedures to improve the skin’s appearance, such as microneedling or laser treatment, should follow only a few weeks or months after the facelift, when all swelling has subsided. Only once the final result is visible can further treatments be planned.
