Breast surgery in Frankfurt
The right breast surgery for your wishes: comprehensive consultation with Dr. Nichlos in Frankfurt
Both women and men want an aesthetically shaped breast. Sometimes, however, because of a congenital malformation, gynecomastia (also called “male breasts“) or simply because of its size, it does not match one’s own ideal, causes discomfort such as back pain (in the case of a very large breast) or even lowers self-esteem.
In most cases, plastic surgery offers the possibility of optimizing the breast with a surgical procedure such as a breast lift, breast augmentation, liposuction or breast reduction, relieving discomfort and improving satisfaction with your own body.

What are the reasons for breast surgery?
There are various reasons for surgery on the breast. Most often, women are dissatisfied with the size or shape of their breasts and find them clearly too small or too large, too lax or not fitting their body shape. The breast shape can be genetic or may have changed as a result of strong weight fluctuations. In some cases, the operation is meant to rebuild the breast (breast reconstruction), correct a malformation (e.g. tubular breasts, inverted nipples) or balance out an asymmetry. If you would like to know which size suits your build, our guide Which cup size is right for me? can help.
By the way: men can also undergo breast surgery to increase their well-being and self-confidence, for example if they suffer from gynecomastia (“male breasts”).

Requirements for breast surgery
One requirement for breast surgery is that breast growth is already complete. This is one reason why aesthetic breast operations are only performed from the age of 18. Only in very rare and well-justified exceptions is cosmetic surgery possible for younger people. There is generally no upper age limit, but further examinations (e.g. mammography) may be required before the operation.
Breast surgery in Frankfurt during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not possible. This is ruled out, on the one hand, for safety reasons for you and the child. On the other hand, the shape and size of the breast during this time do not correspond to the “normal state” and change again afterward, so the result of an operation would not be predictable.
Very important: the procedure must be done of your own wish and should never be performed to please a partner or other people close to you. You should also have realistic expectations of the result of the operation.

Types of breast surgery in Frankfurt
There are various types of breast surgery, which differ in goal and procedure. The most common procedures in breast surgery for women are breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, nipple correction and the replacement of existing breast implants. For men, it is the treatment of gynecomastia.
Breast augmentation (mammary augmentation)
Breast augmentation (mammary augmentation) aims to increase the volume of the breast, optimize its shape or correct any asymmetries.
Read more on our page about breast augmentation.
Breast reduction
In breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty), the aim is to reduce the circumference and volume of the breast by the targeted removal of skin, glandular tissue and fatty tissue.
Read more on our page about breast reduction.
Breast lift
In a breast lift (mastopexy), the skin and tissue of the breast are tightened, although a change in volume is not always necessary or desired.
Read more on our page about the breast lift.
Nipple correction
A nipple correction can permanently change the shape, size or position of the nipples or areolas. This is mainly an option when the nipples are inverted (“inverted nipples”), very large or asymmetrical, or when the areolas are very large overall.
Implant replacement
Sometimes it can be necessary to replace existing implants. There can be various reasons for an implant replacement, for example to replace a damaged implant or to treat complications such as capsular contracture. It is also possible that an implant is to be exchanged for aesthetic reasons, for example if the patient wants a different size or shape.
Gynecomastia surgery
In gynecomastia (colloquially “male breasts”), men have an excessive amount of breast gland tissue, so that their chest has a lot of volume and therefore looks feminine.
Read more on our page about gynecomastia.
What are the risks of breast surgery?
Since breast surgery is a surgical procedure, breast operations of any kind carry general risks such as bleeding or postoperative bleeding, wound healing disorders, infections and problems with scar formation. (Temporary) sensory disturbances of the breast and/or nipple are also possible.
In addition, depending on the type of breast surgery, there are specific risks about which you will be informed in detail during the preparation consultation before the procedure. For example, a breast augmentation with implants can lead to a hardening of the tissue around the breast implants (capsular contracture), and a breast reduction can lead to a loss of the ability to breastfeed.
To reduce the risks, you should have the operation performed by an experienced specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery and consistently follow the instructions for preparation and aftercare.
How much does breast surgery cost in Frankfurt?
What is included in the price?
The total cost of breast surgery is made up of several components. These usually include:
- detailed consultation (€100, fully credited if you go ahead with the treatment)
- individual treatment planning
- surgeon’s fee for the operation
- depending on the procedure, the materials, for example breast implants
- compression bra for the healing phase
- aftercare and follow-up appointments
In addition, depending on the procedure, anesthesia costs and clinic fees apply, as the operations are performed in a specialized clinic. If an overnight stay in the clinic is planned, depending on your individual recovery or at your personal request, the cost of that is added.
Many patients want to know before treatment what costs are associated with breast surgery. Since every treatment is planned individually, the exact price can vary depending on the procedure, the initial findings and the extent of the operation.
At our practice in Frankfurt, the cost of the individual procedures generally starts at:
| Treatment | Price |
|---|---|
| Breast augmentation with fat transfer | from €5,500 |
| Breast augmentation with implants | from €7,500 |
| Breast lift | from €7,500 |
| Breast reduction | from €7,500 |
| Gynecomastia surgery | from €4,500 |
The exact cost depends, among other things, on the chosen procedure and the extent of the operation. After a personal examination, Dr. med. Nichlos prepares an individual treatment and cost plan in which all services are listed transparently.

Frequently asked questions about breast surgery in Frankfurt
How long does breast surgery take?
That depends entirely on the procedure. A breast augmentation usually takes about one to one and a half hours, while a breast lift or breast reduction takes correspondingly longer. Dr. Nichlos will discuss with you in the initial consultation roughly how long it will take in your case.
When does the breast settle into its final shape after surgery?
Right after the procedure, the breast usually still sits a little higher. Over the following weeks, the tissue and, if applicable, the implants settle, and the swelling gradually subsides. The final shape usually shows after about three to six months.
How long will I have pain after breast surgery?
In the first days, a feeling of tightness or pressure is completely normal and can be relieved well with pain relievers. After one to two weeks, it noticeably subsides for most patients. How quickly this happens, however, varies from person to person.
How long do I have to wear a support bra after breast surgery?
Usually you wear a special compression bra or compression garment day and night for about six weeks (four to six weeks after fat transfer and gynecomastia surgery). It supports healing and helps the breast form well. Dr. Nichlos will determine the right bra and the exact length of time with you individually.
When can I sleep on my side again after breast surgery?
In the first weeks, it is best to sleep on your back and slightly elevated, which protects the breast and helps against swelling. Sleeping on your side is usually possible again from the second week and in consultation with Dr. Nichlos, and sleeping on your stomach a little later.
When can I shower again after breast surgery?
That depends on how the wounds heal and how they are dressed. Usually you can shower again after just a few days, as soon as the scars are covered appropriately. Dr. Nichlos will give you clear instructions to take home.
When can I raise my arms again after breast surgery?
For breast augmentation, Dr. Nichlos works with the so-called quick recovery method. The focus is on getting you moving again early and allowing you to move freely in general. Before you put real strain on your arms, however, please still wait for Dr. Nichlos’ personal clearance.
Is a drain necessary after breast surgery?
After a breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction, a drain is generally not necessary. For other procedures, it can make sense in individual cases to temporarily place a thin drain that carries away the wound fluid. If this is needed, it is usually removed after just one to two days.
Will scars remain after breast surgery?
A surgical procedure is not possible entirely without scars. However, Dr. Nichlos places the incisions so that they are as inconspicuous as possible, for example in the inframammary fold or at the edge of the areola. With good care, the scars usually fade noticeably over time.
Can I still breastfeed after breast surgery?
Whether the ability to breastfeed is preserved depends largely on how much glandular tissue was removed during the procedure. With a breast augmentation, it is generally preserved. With a breast lift, it can be limited in rare cases, and with a breast reduction there is a higher risk, as glandular tissue is removed. A guarantee cannot be given in any case. If you would like to have children in the future, be sure to mention this in the consultation. Dr. Nichlos will address your situation individually.
Does health insurance cover the cost of breast surgery?
Dr. Nichlos has no statutory health insurance accreditation. Billing through statutory health insurance is therefore not possible, even with a medical justification. Whether your insurer or supplemental insurance reimburses anything is best clarified directly with them in advance. You can find the prices in the price list.
How long am I unable to work after breast surgery?
That depends on the procedure and on your job. After a breast lift or breast reduction, everyday life and light activities are usually possible again the next day. You avoid sports and heavy lifting for about 4 to 6 weeks. How long you should take time off in an individual case is determined by Dr. Nichlos after the operation.
Can several breast operations be combined in one procedure?
Yes, that often makes sense. For example, a breast lift can be combined with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction. Which combination suits you, you can discuss in the consultation.
