Relieving discomfort caused by enlarged labia: labiaplasty with Dr. Nichlos
The female intimate area is a sensitive zone and very individual from woman to woman. This shows, among other things, in the inner labia (labia minora), which in some women are completely covered by the outer labia and in others are very pronounced and protrude clearly or even hang down. Many women find the latter unpleasant and bothersome. Some feel it so strongly that, because of embarrassment, they avoid intimacy with their partner or give up wearing clothing such as bikinis. Discomfort from friction against clothing such as pants or pain when riding a bicycle is also not uncommon with long labia.
With a surgical reduction, it is possible to optimize the size and shape of the inner labia according to your wishes, to correct congenital asymmetries and so help you achieve a more positive body image. As a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, Dr. Nichlos is the right person to talk to. Call now to schedule a non-binding consultation at our practice in Frankfurt!
What is a labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce the inner labia (labia minora) or, in rare cases, the outer labia (labia majora). The aim of the labia correction is to improve women’s physical well-being and to relieve any discomfort that can be traced back to enlarged labia.

Experiences with the labiaplasty at Dr. Nichlos
What are the benefits of a labiaplasty in Frankfurt?

Specialist for labiaplasty in Frankfurt
Dr. med. Emmanouil Nichlos has specialized in labiaplasty for over 17 years and has extensive experience in aesthetic intimate surgery.
With great sensitivity and precise technique, Dr. Nichlos achieves aesthetic results and improved physical well-being. Dr. Nichlos personally looks after freshly operated patients. In the first 24 hours after the operation, he is available to them for questions or problems.
What are the reasons for a labiaplasty?
The inner labia can visibly change with age (for example during menopause) or due to factors such as pregnancies and births as well as weight fluctuations, increasingly loosen, begin to hang and eventually appear longer. Enlarged labia most often appear during puberty, however, when the labia begin to grow in parallel with the breasts.
Regardless of the cause, many women find it unaesthetic and feel uncomfortable with their intimate area when the inner labia protrude too far between the outer ones and/or hang down loosely, and therefore look for options for a correction.
Aesthetics is only one reason why women want a surgical correction of the labia. Because of enlarged labia, they often also suffer from physical discomfort such as unpleasant chafing when wearing tight clothing and during sports, cannot practice certain sports such as horseback riding or cycling at all, or have pain during intimate contact with their partner. Skin irritation and recurring infections can also occur.

Which methods of labiaplasty are there in plastic surgery?
Depending on the findings and your individual wishes, various methods are available for the labia correction, which we would like to briefly introduce here.
With this method, Dr. Nichlos removes the excess tissue below the clitoris with precise incisions. The incision runs in an arc from the lower attachment of the inner labia upward, which allows a natural result. In most cases, this simple labia correction is enough to relieve discomfort and ensure that you feel comfortable with your intimate area again.
In some patients, in addition to the inner labia, the clitoral hood is also too pronounced, so a correction by removing the excess tissue is desired here as well. Using a refined incision technique that requires a great deal of experience and a delicate touch, Dr. Nichlos removes the tissue so precisely that an aesthetic overall appearance results at the end of the procedure and the sensitivity of the clitoris is generally preserved.
The 3D labiaplasty is a new method in intimate surgery for reducing the inner labia. Basically, here too the inner labia are first reduced with exact incisions and the clitoral hood is tightened. In this special method, the clitoris is also repositioned downward. This makes sense when the clitoris visibly protrudes from under the clitoral hood. With the help of the 3D reduction labiaplasty, Dr. Nichlos can correct this and shape a harmonious intimate area. Here too, sensitivity to touch is generally preserved.
What happens before the labiaplasty?
If you would like a labia correction, we are happy to invite you to a consultation at our practice in Frankfurt. Here, Dr. Nichlos welcomes you for a personal conversation and talks with you about your motivation and wishes. For the specialist in aesthetic and plastic surgery, it is particularly important to learn what problems your labia cause you.
Following a physical examination, Dr. Nichlos presents possible treatment methods for the labia correction with which your ideas can best be implemented and your discomfort relieved. The specialist then explains the course of the procedure and what you should pay attention to before and afterward. He also informs you about possible risks associated with a procedure such as the labia correction. Dr. Nichlos also clarifies questions about the treatment cost with you.
If you decide on the labia correction, we schedule a surgery date, for which you come to the affiliated clinic in Frankfurt. Here, Dr. Nichlos uses the modern operating rooms to offer you a high quality of treatment.
Do you have questions of your own, or is there something on your mind that feels uncomfortable to you? You can be completely open at the consultation. For Dr. Nichlos, discretion comes first, especially in a sensitive area such as intimate surgery.
Labiaplasty in Frankfurt: How does the procedure work?
Dr. Nichlos performs this routine procedure on an outpatient or short inpatient basis (with one overnight stay in the clinic) and, as you prefer, under local anesthesia or with twilight sedation/general anesthesia. For the operation itself, you should plan about one hour.
After the anesthesia has been induced and the surgical area carefully disinfected, the surgeon begins to remove the excess tissue on the labia with precise incisions. Depending on your wishes, he also performs a clitoral hood reduction at the same time and/or moves the clitoris slightly further down for a harmonious overall appearance.
Finally, Dr. Nichlos stops any bleeding and closes the wounds with self-dissolving sutures, so that no removal is necessary later. If the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, you can leave the clinic right afterward. Please have another person accompany you and, if necessary, drive, as your ability to drive may be impaired by the anesthesia.
Healing after the labiaplasty: What to keep in mind
After the labia correction, give yourself enough time to recover so as not to affect the healing process. You are usually socially presentable after 1 to 2 days. You can shower as early as the next day, but should use only tap water in the intimate area, no soap or shower gel. Sitz baths are also recommended. In the first days you can take them twice a day for three to five minutes each, ideally with a lukewarm chamomile solution.
To support healing, you can apply a wound ointment to the affected areas. During this time, please wear sanitary pads, loose underwear and loose-fitting clothing that does not irritate your intimate area. Avoid sexual intercourse for the following 6 weeks and sports for the first 3 to 4 weeks, especially horseback riding and cycling.
To monitor wound healing, a follow-up check usually takes place after two weeks at our practice in Frankfurt, and further ones if necessary in the following months. We will discuss the details of the aftercare appointments with you on the day of the operation.
What are the risks of a labiaplasty?
In intimate surgery, labiaplasty is considered a comparatively minor procedure, which, like any procedure, involves risks. General surgical risks such as secondary bleeding, wound healing disorders or infections are rare when the procedure is performed professionally under strict hygiene standards.
Following the operation, however, some patients may temporarily experience mild swelling, redness, pain or sensory disturbances, which subside again in the course of healing. You can support this process with careful cooling. Please also observe our further instructions on aftercare.
In very rare cases, a labia correction can also lead to permanent loss of feeling or sensitivity disorders. By choosing a qualified surgeon such as Dr. Nichlos, who as a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery has many years of experience in intimate surgery, this risk can be reduced.

Frequently asked questions about labiaplasty in Frankfurt
Is a labiaplasty painful?
Thanks to the local anesthesia of the intimate area, you feel nothing during the procedure. After the operation, mild pain can occur, which can be treated well with cooling or pain medication.
Is a reduction of the outer labia also possible?
Yes, the outer labia can also be reduced, either by removing excess skin or by targeted liposuction.
When can I go back to work after the procedure?
As a rule, you can go back to work after a few days. For physically demanding work, however, you should plan about 1 to 2 weeks of recovery time.
When can I have sexual intercourse again after a labiaplasty?
Dr. Nichlos recommends waiting at least six weeks before sexual intercourse so that healing is fully complete.
Will visible scars remain after a labiaplasty?
The incisions are made very precisely in the area of the inner labia. The scars are usually inconspicuous later on.
Can a labiaplasty be combined with other procedures?
Yes, it can be combined, for example, with a reduction of the outer labia, vaginal tightening or a mons pubis correction, depending on the desired result.
How long does the result of a labiaplasty last?
The result generally lasts long term, since the removed tissue does not grow back. Aging and weight fluctuations can nevertheless change the shape of the labia.
How long are normal labia?
The inner labia vary greatly from woman to woman. In some they are completely covered by the outer labia, in others they protrude clearly or hang down. Whether a correction is an option depends on whether you feel bothered by their appearance or by discomfort such as friction in tight clothing or during sports. You will discuss this in a discreet conversation with Dr. Nichlos.
Does health insurance cover the cost of a labiaplasty?
Dr. Nichlos runs a private practice without statutory health insurance accreditation and bills privately. Billing through statutory health insurance is therefore not possible. Whether a private insurance covers the cost in full or in part, please clarify in advance with your insurer. The cost starts at €2,500 plus anesthesia and clinic, more under Prices.
