Deep plane facelift

Correcting pronounced facial laxity: deep plane facelift with Dr. Nichlos

At some point, despite careful care, the face in the mirror no longer quite matches how you feel inside. The cause is natural signs of aging, which let skin and tissue sink and blur the contours. For many patients, the wish for change then grows. Yet many shy away from a facelift because they know the sometimes mask-like results of celebrities from the media.

In modern plastic surgery, however, the skin is no longer pulled to tighten it. Instead, skin and muscle tissue are now often repositioned to their original position, which allows a natural result. Dr. Nichlos is experienced with the deep plane lift in Frankfurt and uses this demanding procedure. With the procedure, the plastic surgeon restores their original firmness to individual areas of the midface such as the cheeks, chin and jawline, while the natural facial expression is meant to be preserved.

Schedule a non-binding appointment now and let Dr. Nichlos advise you at our practice in Frankfurt about the options and the procedure of facial rejuvenation with the deep plane facelift.

What is a deep plane facelift?

The deep plane facelift is an effective method of visually rejuvenating the face, in which Dr. Nichlos corrects not only the visible effects of natural skin aging but also lifts the deeper structures that contribute to the sagging of tissue.

In contrast to the classic facelift, in which only the skin (and, if applicable, the tissue directly beneath it) is tightened, Dr. Nichlos works on deeper layers in the deep plane facelift. This is because with increasing age, the so-called ligaments (also retaining ligaments) loosen. These bands anchor the soft tissues of the face to the bone. Through gravity and the age-related loosening of these retaining ligaments, the tissue sinks downward over the years.

In the deep plane facelift, Dr. Nichlos carefully releases the ligaments, lifts the entire tissue including the muscles, fat and skin using a special incision technique, and moves it into a new, or rather its original, position. The advantage of the deep plane facelift is that all relevant structures are repositioned at the same time. As a result, there is no tension on the skin, and a “mask-like” appearance, which patients fear, can be avoided.

Specialist for deep plane facelift in Frankfurt

Dr. med. Emmanouil Nichlos has specialized in deep plane facelifts for over 17 years and has extensive experience in advanced techniques of facial surgery.

By working in the deeper tissue layers, this method enables natural-looking results without unnatural tension. During the healing phase, freshly operated patients are personally looked after, and Dr. Nichlos is available to them, if needed, in the first 24 hours after the operation for questions or problems.

Who is a deep plane facelift suitable for?

The deep plane facelift method has meanwhile become established in plastic and aesthetic surgery. Performed by an experienced specialist, the procedure is very well suited for women and men who want a comprehensive and lasting rejuvenation of their face that can no longer be achieved by minimally invasive methods alone.

With the deep plane facelift, a midface that has sunk due to age-related volume loss can be lifted and so-called “jowls” tightened. This facelift surgery can also soften pronounced nasolabial folds, contour the jawline and define a neck contour blurred by increasing laxity of the neck.

Most of our patients who decide on a deep plane facelift are between 40 and 60+ years old. There is, however, no fixed age limit. What always matters is the individual starting condition of your skin and your personal sense of it. It is best to get non-binding advice from Dr. med. Nichlos in Frankfurt. The specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery knows which method is best suited to fulfill your wishes for facial rejuvenation.

What happens before the deep plane facelift?

Before every procedure, there is a detailed conversation with Dr. Nichlos at our practice in Frankfurt am Main. In a relaxed atmosphere, you talk about your wishes and ideas. At the same time, Dr. Nichlos analyzes your unique facial anatomy and the condition of your skin. Based on these findings, he then prepares an individual treatment plan.

Procedure

Deep plane facelift in Frankfurt: How does the surgery work?

The procedure itself takes place under general anesthesia, either at our affiliated clinic in Frankfurt or at a private clinic in Wiesbaden, and usually takes 3.5 to 4 hours. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Nichlos first makes the incisions at the previously marked locations. For the lift, these are in inconspicuous places such as the hairline at the temple or directly in front of or behind the ears. In these areas, the fine scars usually heal inconspicuously.

In the next step, the deep tissue layer is released from the fixing bands with special instruments, mobilized and carefully repositioned. If you wish, an additional neck lift can be performed to achieve a harmonious overall result. Finally, Dr. Nichlos closes the surgical wounds without tension.

Aftercare

Healing after the deep plane facelift: What to keep in mind

After the operation, you usually stay one night at the clinic for monitoring. For a full recovery and good healing of the scars, you should definitely take it easy physically in the first days after your discharge and avoid any exertion such as heavy lifting.

Mild discomfort such as swelling and bruising is completely normal in the first two to three weeks after the procedure. You can ease it with cooling (always with a cloth in between!). Very important: avoid intense sun exposure in the first two months and attend your aftercare appointments.

If healing proceeds without complications, you can return to work and take part in social life about two to three weeks after the facelift.

You wear the facial bandage for 7 days, and the sutures are removed after 7 to 10 days. You should refrain from sports for 4 weeks. Lymphatic drainage and follow-up appointments take place as agreed.

Risks

What are the risks of a deep plane facelift?

As with any surgical procedure, the deep plane facelift also carries certain risks.

Possible risks are:

  • Temporary sensory disturbances such as numbness or abnormal sensations
  • Nerve injuries with temporary paralysis (very rare)
  • Wound healing disorders and infections
  • Unwanted scarring
  • Postoperative bleeding
  • Asymmetries

Thanks to strict hygiene standards as well as Dr. Nichlos’ expertise and experience, the risks mentioned can be reduced, but never completely ruled out.

This also applies to redness, swelling and bruising/hematomas, which can occur after the deep plane facelift and usually subside on their own after some time. Of course, Dr. Nichlos informs you beforehand about all possible risks and side effects and provides you with information on how to behave before and after the operation to support healing and the result as well as possible. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Cost

How much does a deep plane facelift cost in Frankfurt?

Deep plane facelift:
from €9,000
To financing

What is included in the price?

The total cost of a deep plane facelift is made up of several medical services. These usually include:

  • detailed consultation (€100, fully credited if you go ahead with the treatment)
  • individual analysis of your facial structure and treatment planning
  • surgeon’s fee for the procedure
  • medical care during the operation
  • aftercare and follow-up appointments

Since the procedure is performed in a specialized clinic, anesthesia and clinic fees apply in addition.

After the operation, you also receive a facial bandage, which supports the healing process and stabilizes the result. An overnight stay at the clinic is also usually planned.

The cost of a deep plane facelift depends on the extent of the treatment and your individual anatomy. Since this method repositions not only the skin but also deeper tissue layers in the face, the deep plane facelift is one of the most technically demanding forms of facial tightening.

At our practice, the cost of a deep plane facelift generally starts at:

  • Deep plane facelift: from €9,000

The final price depends, among other things, on which areas of the face are treated and whether additional measures, for example a neck lift, make sense. After a personal examination, Dr. med. Nichlos prepares an individual treatment and cost plan in which all components of the treatment are listed transparently.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the deep plane facelift in Frankfurt

Compared with other methods, the result of a deep plane facelift lasts longer. This is due to a completely different approach: minimally invasive treatments fill out the structures or slow down muscle activity, whereas a deep plane facelift repositions the structures themselves.

In concrete terms, this means the facial structures are moved back to the position they were in about 10 to 15 years ago. The procedure does not stop the natural aging process, but it sets it back, so the rejuvenated result can last several years with a healthy lifestyle and good skin care.

Yes, this often makes sense to achieve a harmonious overall result. The combination with a brow lift or eyelid lift and/or a neck lift is particularly well suited. Lip volume enhancement, autologous fat transfer (lipofilling) or a nano-fat treatment can also contribute to a harmonious overall result. It is best to get personal advice from Dr. Nichlos. The facial surgery expert prepares a treatment concept for you that is tailored exactly to your wishes and needs.

Most patients report a temporary feeling of tightness, and some also mild pain. The initial wound pain that often occurs after a surgical procedure can usually be treated well with standard pain relievers until it subsides.

In a deep plane facelift, Dr. Nichlos releases the retaining ligaments that anchor the tissue to the bone and lifts muscle, fat and skin together. In a SMAS lift, he moves the SMAS layer, a firm layer of connective tissue and muscle under the skin, back to its original position and fixes it there. With both procedures, there is no tension on the skin after the operation. Which procedure suits you depends on your findings. Dr. Nichlos clarifies this in the consultation in Frankfurt. The page on the facelift gives an overview of all methods.
